Commissions
Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, gifting something meaningful or bringing a personal story to life, commissioning art is a powerful way to create something truly unique. I love working with clients to capture their pets, loved ones or even to turn their ideas into something tangible.
Here’s how the process works, what to expect and how I protect both your vision and my creative rights.
The Commission Process
Step 1: Enquiry & Brief
You don’t need to know exactly what you want – just share your thoughts or inspiration, the occasion and any must-haves (like colours, themes, sizes etc). I’ll guide you through shaping a brief that balances your vision with creative freedom.
Step 2: Quote & Agreement
Once we’ve defined the scope, I’ll provide a quote and outline what’s included (e.g. framing, delivery etc). You’ll receive a written agreement covering timelines, payment terms and usage rights.
Step 3: Initial Payment
To secure your commission and begin work, a 50% payment is required. This confirms your booking and allows me to schedule your piece into my creative calendar.
Step 4: Creation & Updates
I’ll begin crafting your piece, keeping you updated at key stages with progress photos. Depending on the artwork type, you may also see sketches, colour tests or additional paintings. Minor revisions are included, if there are major changes then this may affect the timeline or cost.
Step 5: Final Payment
Once the artwork is complete and ready to send, the remaining 50% balance is due.
Step 6: Delivery & Aftercare
Once your payment is received, your finished artwork will be carefully packaged and delivered. I’ll also share tips for framing, displaying, or gifting your piece.
Copyright & Usage Rights
When you commission a piece, you’re buying the physical or digital artwork, not the copyright. As the artist, I retain the copyright, which means:
- I may share the work in my portfolio for marketing or exhibitions (unless otherwise agreed).
- You may display or gift the artwork for personal use.
- Commercial use (e.g. branding, merchandise, resale) requires a separate licence which would involve a separate agreement at an additional cost.
If you’d prefer exclusivity or want to keep the artwork private, just let me know, we can tailor the agreement to suit your needs.
What if I change my mind mid-way?
I understand that ideas evolve. I’ll always try to accommodate changes, but significant revisions may require a new quote and a change to the timeline.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes – split payments are available for larger commissions, just ask during the enquiry stage.
If you’re curious, inspired or just want to explore the possibilities, I’d love to hear from you. Fill out the commission enquiry form in the sub menu or send me a message – no pressure, no jargon, just a friendly chat about what we could create together.
